At the 12th Puchon International Film Festival in Seoul, South Korea, Kelvin Tong's horror movie Rule #1 won best actor laurels for it's two male leads Ekin Cheng and Shawn Yue. The Best Male Actor award went to both actors as they have many combined scenes in the movie. Ekin's acting skill has for a long time endured critism and he has never before won a best male actor award, although he has been nominated several times. This time he makes a break through and finally receives recognition and the honor of Best Male Actor.
Ekin is currently working in Okinawa on the movie The Legend of Kamui, while in Japan he has also filmed a TVB " Two on the Road episode with Karina Lam. At first Ekin had not had received notification to attend the film festival. He heard through journalists that he had indeed won the Best male Actor Award at the Film Festival.. Ekin's manager Lam Shan Shan wondered why no one had called them to attend the festival, She hoped that it was not because past nominations had not reached the prize. However, Ekin was very happy about the news. He only regret was that it still had not premiered in Hong Kong. To make this movie in which he plays an older, drunken head of the Miscellaneous Affairs Department he had to increase his weight by 20 lbs. The weight then had to be shed for his role as Whispering Wind, so there was a certain amount of hard work and sacrifice required.
Shawn Yue was working in Guangzhou when he received the news. He was very excited and felt that his hard work had not been a waste. The big winner at the Festival was the Korean movie The Chase which won 3 awards including Best Picture, Best Female Actor and an Asian Collaboration Special Award.
