Today at the Rome International Television Drama Festival Huo Yuan Jia starring Ekin and Jordan was shown. The drama is competing in the lengthy television drama category. Most of the dramas at the festival are from Europe and the United States, This is the only Chinese entry this category.
Ekin has been nominated for the best actor award category. To date Ekin still has never managed to win an award and so this time he is hoping for a breakthrough. Everyone knows that in recent years Ekin's career has struggled although he has been in the entertainment industry for 20 years. He has many movies to his credit though he is without an award. Ekin, nevertheless, is always happy when he is nominated, with a try his best attitude.
In participating in this drama Ekin spent much time studying both martial arts and the character of Huo Yuan Jia before filming began. On a number of occasions he has commented on the enormous pressure he felt undertaking this role. In addition he seriously took advice from all the martial arts directors. The director laughing said that Ekin had required his input constantly on how the performance should be. As a result the performance was outstanding. He added that if Ekin could achieve the best actor award his reputation as a hardworking actor would be acknowledged.
Unfortunately due to other filming commitments, neither Ekin not Jordan could attend the festival. However they both expressed that if the drama could achieve an award it would be wonderful. 周牧茵 the female star of the drama, however did attend, and was a focus of the overseas media.

Though 《霍元甲》 failed to take any awards at the first Rome Television Series Festival, Director Stanley Kwan said that the fact that it was invited to compete is the most important. Several hundred other television series were also in contention from many countries. 《霍元甲》 however, was the only Chinese series. Stanley Kwan explained that winning the prizes was not their only goal. He said that they were able to represent China, and that was not insignificant as they were very proud and honored to be asked to participate. In addition they are able to allow many other countries to learn more about Chinese culture and our national patriotism and also publicize the drama. The series was warmly received at the festival and there was much interest in it. The scene that was shown had English subtitles added. Many countries were interested in purchasing the drama, as so there will need to be two editions, a Chinese version and a subtitled one. The producers have hope that they can penetrate the European market and negotiations are already underway with some countries. Stanley Kwan noted that this was something they hadn't expected and of course they were very happy about it. He added that for him to receive audience and business approval and open up the world to Chinese culture was the most important outcome of the festival.
This is the first time Ekin has acted in a mainland TV drama and portrayed such a national hero. Ekin has said before that though the pressure was great, he cherished the opportunity to perform this role. he hoped through it he will be able to show the essence of China's martial arts tradition, and in addition open up to a new generation the martial arts, moral integrity and Chinese national patriotism.
《霍元甲》 will be broadcast in mainland China beginning in August 2007

Maoren has once again asked Ekin and Shu Qi to be ambassadors for their Fall Collection. The company describes them as "strong man, beautiful woman" which perfectly embodies their product line. Maoren has a significant market share covering 180 cities and producing revenues of $100 million.

Ekin and Yoyo were seen playing badminton together yesterday afternoon in Kowloon. They played together with 5 or 6 TVB members. Yoyo was seen scolding Ekin in a very playful way as though there was no one else there. Ekin plays very skillfully and often was seen rolling on the floor of the court trying to save the shuttlecock from going out, causing Yoyo to laugh and tease him. Neither seemed the slightest self conscious to show their feelings. When Yoyo was tired and rested while Ekin played with another person. Though Ekin left first, Yoyo was right behind him, and they left together in Ekin's car.
