In October Ekin will be 40 years old. Although in recent years he has been charged with having a career at the bottom of a valley, but the reality is his work has never been interrupted. 10 years ago he became famous as Chan Ho Nam in the Young and Dangerous series of movies. This made it difficult for him to overcome and caused him some distress that he couldn't take on other roles easily. Recently he has succeeded in finding his own way out. He hopes that the next years can gratify a cherished desire to direct.
Ekin has experienced the high point in his career, the triad theme has haunted him through out his career, and he returned to the same theme again in his recent movie Heavenly Mission. However this was a much more mature role than the Young and Dangerous series. Last year Ekin shaved his head to take the role of Huo Yuan Jia in a mainland TV production. Prior to that he played a plant biologist the horror suspense movie Forest of Death, directed by Peng Fa. Ekin has a special relationship with the Peng Bros.
" This is the second time Peng Fa and I have collaborated. The first time was Leave Me Alone. Ten years ago I filmed Young and Dangerous, A Man Called Hero. One day he called me and said he had a role that would completely suit me. He said don't decline, I see the role as too interesting not to obtain."
Forest of Death was adapted from real people and real events in a Japanese forest. It is said that this forest is a place where people commit suicide. For days on end the Japanese government also put up signs. " Only one life , cherish it highly" to remind people to value life. in the movie Ekin plays the part of a biologist, explains have to conduct oneself in a reasonable way. But in Ekin's heart this is still a significant action. he wants to transmit a message, in fact he also wants to remind people to cherish life.
"I feel people's life have happy things too much. if they encounter a tiny setback then snap and commit suicide. Really this too foolish. As long as persist certainly will be able to endure. Life really has ups and downs. If you don't taste the bitter, how can you know the taste of sweetness. So should be encouraged through the tiny setbacks. Nowadays people if people are not on the up they snap. Once I have a senior citizen tell me you can enjoy the difficult times, if you fall then climb back up. I feel his words are very correct. It is vital to enjoy the process, basically you don't need to compare with other people."
Gigi and Ekin parted company at the beginning of last year. They both endured the low points of their careers through people's anger fell the lowest. Through many years just worked hard. This way they obtain the love and affection of their fans. What a pity in the end didn't escape splitting up. Later the media discovered Ekin and Yoyo Mung send time together playing badminton. Then Yoyo appeared at Ekin's birthday last year, however regarding their feelings, Ekin didn't with to discuss it. However he shared his opinions on marriage. Reporters always make detailed enquiries about whether he will collaborate with Yoyo. Ekin again avoids discussing.
"I feel the most important thing is for two people to be happy. Marriage happens naturally. Besides my parents don't pressure me to get married. As an actor shouldn't publicly talk about feelings. This really isn't a correct line of questions. Every body see this reply and already change. I admire Li Ming, he know that by reporters is being secretly filmed in Japan. Then he will not dare to answer anything. Reporters from a distance take photographs. Don't affect other people. This is not the same as at an event's attitude. You want to know already let you know, as to in the future whether film an advertisement together, ha! ha! Really the advertisement department have to talk first, temporarily have not have a person."
Ekin has an older brother and a younger sister, when he was young had Gundam toys. Now have become his lifetime wish. He remembers the first time he saw them in the department store. because then they were $68 they were considered to be too expensive. Now however the value is $30.000 more. Now can purchase and can give into his desire to own them.
"When I was young often borrowed games from neighbor's children, return home and play with my brother and sister. borrow if not hear return words. Simply with friends play hide and seek. In fact these times are my most sweet memories. So have people know I like to play game machine. Play same game again and again only because didn't have other entertainment. The game made me satisfied. Now there are too many choices. NDS, PSP,PS3 etc. Every month there is a new game. Things come to easily. Basically no longer treasure them. This is modern people's lives."
Last year Ekin was often working away from Hong Kong. he went to Thailand 7 times to film Ultraman, then he was on the mainland for three months to film the TV drama Huo Yuan Jia. he has experienced different places and working conditions. He feels that Hong Kong's entertainment circle is becoming smaller and smaller and the actors are very passive. From this has risen his desire to find a sponsor so he can direct.
" Early when I was a TVB actor, then dream I can be a director. I remember the first time I collaborated with Andy Lau I already had an interest in directing. Have a lot of movie aspect ideas, and lot of concern for the film angle, just a lot of questions. Feel directing is right or wrong interesting and ingenious work. Now I am old enough to be able to transform ny role and it also will be good for me. Currently have several scripts in hand however to make movies you need a lot of money. Investors are not easy to find. So the first movies can only from small cost begin. I most want to use a manga them to film. I don't think I would also participate in the movie. I think I would find new actors to perform, because that will create space to compare other people's eyes and not lose the detail."
When meet for the fist time work when work, and play when play kind of person. The interview over a big sigh, and the topic of talk change, he laugh and joke with record company staff and gossip about things not related to movie promotions. He was also interested to try out the alligator game.

Ekin and Shu Qi agreed to give a radio interview to promote their latest movie Forest of Death. Shu Qi knowing that reporters were following drove around for a while before finally getting out of the car opposite the interview location and hurrying across the street to enter the hotel. About 15 minutes later Ekin pointing the location out to his aides also rushed to enter the hotel. The interview took about an hour. During the time Shu Qi gestured out of the window to reporters downstairs with a victory sign. After the interview they both quickly jumped into cars and left the scene.

Last month Ekin attended the opening of the Hong Kong Manga museum, featuring Tezuka Osamu's work, with his son 手冢真. Yoyo Mung appears at the closing event. Since the news of their romance broke last September both Ekin and Yoyo have kept a low profile, only describing themselves as Badminton friends. Even though Yoyo's appearance was in a different month from Ekin's there is still some speculation that Ekin may have helped her to get the booking. Yoyo denied this and said she didn't even know Ekin had been at the opening until the press pointed it out. She said she didn't mind the speculation's of the press and that this was just work. Ekin commented through his manager at BMA, He acknowledged that the press would try to link them and make it a focus, however it was just normal work and that he had no further comment.
Recently, Ekin and Yoyo were seen in each other's company in a Hong Kong shopping mall strolling hand in hand and window shopping. Many people saw them and paid attention, however they didn't loose hands and seemed very affectionate toward one another.

Ekin and Yoyo Mung have been linked together since September last year. A recent magazine accused Yoyo of kicking away her old boyfriend because she wanted to date Ekin and standing with one foot in two boats. Yoyo was accused of starting to develop a relationship by playing badminton secretly with Ekin, at the same time as talking about marriage with her former boyfriend Michael. Michael had been in Canada for medical treatment, but now has returned to Hong Kong. He accused Ekin of being and illicit partner. Regarding this accusation, Ekin's manager Lam Shan Shan indicated that there would be no reply.
Yesterday Yoyo's frame of mind was good. Together with Lai Lok Yi she was a model in a Western style clothing event for the new spring collection. She also refused to answer reporters, saying write your thing but don't disturb my friends. You give it to me to see, I'm not going to buy it, want to believe it then believe it, don't believe it then don't. Yoyo indicated that seeing the cover page knew that it was not fact, so there is no need to make a reply. The reporters asked her to respond to the reports that she and Ekin had already parted company. She smiled and responded that she had never said that they started so how could they part. Talking about how they were seen together recently at dinner, Yoyo indicated that actually it was Lok Yi who invited. Lok Yi said that he and Ekin had been friends first.

Since Yoyo Mung was charged with concealing from Ekin her relationship with Michael, reporters have pursued her relentlessly. Yesterday she was again charged in a magazine of having her feet in two boats. In addition she was charged with planning marriage with Michael, but when she met Ekin decided to drop Michael to be with Ekin instead.
Ekin and Yoyo were seen out buying red wine. olive oil and beef strips, to return home to have dinner. However reporters pursued then hoping to be able to talk to them. Right away Ekin's face fell and he was not pleased. He asked Yoyo to throw them off though he was not willing to be persuaded or coerced into talking with them. Seeing that Yoyo was not able to throw off the reporters, Ekin abandoned the scene leaving Yoyo. Ekin returned to the garage to collect the car, carrying the purchases. The more the reporters shouted after him the faster he walked. Once he saw that the reporters were far behind he pulled out his cell phone to talk to Yoyo. He kept the phone very close to his ear to avoid the camera. Yoyo came to the garage but seeing the reporters hid behind a car to wait for him. They returned into the shopping area and then finally did succeed in getting away from the reporters.

Since Ekin and Yoyo were linked together in September last year, the news frequency has increased proportionately. At Ekin's birthday last year, Yoyo found her status upgraded to girlfriend after she brought him a cake. Until recently when a magazine published that the half a year was insufficient time for relationship that was already over.
But last month reporters discovered, the recently returned home from Taiwan, Yoyo in HMV with Ekin searching the cd's. While Yoyo was in Taiwan she continually played down her relationship with Ekin saying only that they were badminton partners only. When Ekin was cornered at a BMA function he said that he had already explained that the relationship was in the developing stage. He returned home but she had already left for Taiwan.
However there were reports that while Ekin was busy filming on the mainland Yoyo was seen during December and January by Ekin's close friends, holding hands with a male friend and rambling. This even more fueled the idea that their relationship was over.
But last month they still seemed to be sweet together. They chose three DVD's from HMV and Ekin paid for them totally more than $400HK. When they left Ekin abandoned road and used the pedestrian bridge to the parking lot to fetch the car, then both returned to Sai Kung.
This month they were seen again shopping together. This time reporters caused Ekin to leave the scene for the parking lot in an attempt to avoid the press. Both keep quiet about their feelings for each other, to avoid influencing their work.

Yesterday's 'East Week' Magazine published pictures of Ekin and Yoyo, reporting that they have been living together for several days at Ekin's Sai Kung residence. The magazine describes how Yoyo was there to look after and meet Ekin's family and friends. When they were alone they were seen to be kissing. It looked very sweet. Not having seen the report neither Ekin nor Yoyo would comment. Ekin's manager also said she had nothing to say about this incident.
Recently Yoyo was accused by her ex-boyfriend of developing a relationship with Ekin while still discussing marriage with him. These rumors have not influenced the relationship between Yoyo and Ekin.
Although it seems that Yoyo is at Ekin's home she still maintains her own place, and does return there each week. Both of them are constantly pursued by reporters. Although Yoyo is very low key with the media, but when she is at Ekin's home she appears to take the initiative. Reporters see her choosing to linger with Ekin.
Ekin is well known for the fact that he spends time with his family, Yoyo took advantage to be there when Ekin invited his family, including his parents, brothers and sisters and their spouses, and good friends, to his home for a barbeque. Yoyo spent time with Ekin's mother and his father was attentive fetching her wine from the kitchen.
Besides getting to know Ekin's family another day when the weather was cooler, Ekin's good friends including Jerry Lam and his wife, together with Ekin's manager Shan Shan and her boyfriend also paid a visit. Yoyo comfortably chatted with everyone. Clearly she is different from Ekin's former girlfriend Gigi.

Yesterday Ekin attended a Canon camera publicity event to unveil a new product. Recently the media invaded Ekin's privacy and printed photographs showing him kissing his girlfriend Yoyo Mung. The text also pointed that Ekin took his girlfriend to meet his parents. Ekin rarely loses his temper, however, regarding these reports Ekin seemed to be very angry, in fact one could say furious. He indicated that he would not discuss private matters, because in fact everyone can see in the magazine. Regarding the fact that his living situation has been made public, Ekin openly said that he was not happy and further he severely scolded the Hong Kong paparazzi. He add that yet again the law fails to guarantee a citizen's privacy. To report these people to the police is useless, to try to take legal recourse is also useless. He said he had also discussed all of this with his girlfriend.
Reporters asked whether after this he would put shades at his windows. Ekin said that he would not pull down shades in his home if he didn't want to. They also wanted to know whether Yoyo had met his parents. Ekin, still in a filthy mood, angrily said that the photographs already answered that question, and he would not talk about private matters.
The topic of talk then turned back to the camera product launch event. Ekin's mood returned to normal. he said that Canon also sponsored him to use the equipment to take photographs. He said he went to the Philippines to take pictures of whales in conjunction with the WWF to help promote conservation of the ocean and advocate treasuring our earth.
Yoyo was also at a soccer star team event. She was also asked about her living arrangements with Ekin and also whether they would get married. Yoyo shook her head and denied that they were living together. She added that she had just returned from a Shanghai publicizing her TVB drama, and hadn't seen the report. She also reprimanded these reporters saying that these sneaked pictures were excessive, but she would not discuss them. Yoyo, also not happy, admitted that she had met Ekin's parents. She said Ekin invited them to drink tea, do you mean to say you think I should clear off and go away? Sh also indicated that the pursuit of the paparazzi was exhausting. Last week when she went to church she was pursued. She indicated that she would not explain anything and reporters didn't need to follow other people to get explanations. She said that people mostly didn't care where she went, but when she is with Ekin only then the press want to know about her errands and this disturbs her very much.
