Sand Charisma Ekin Cheng Yee-Kin The Outlook Magazine - August 2003

Watch television, play video games, swim, dive, already become accomplished as an actor. Each I regard recently as a strong sense of playfulnesss and appeal. I envy happiness, yet separately have a sense that take on worry. Find great nature passion, I see destiny very difficult to accomplish big things. Just as flowers wilt in a warm room, so only the seagulls can follow the big ocean. The sand saw me yesterday as a childhood dream, swirls and sees me today, also will be able to remain to see me tomorrow.

When I was in America to film Second Time Around some days I am able to have free time. One day I decide to leave and travel to the beach. There were sand dunes. As the sun set at the end of the day, the sky become rare reds and clear light. The setting sun on the horizon illuminate the sand with flashes of golden light. for a time it is a gorgeous desert feeling. There are thousands of changes in a sand dune, this can compare with human life. The sand is a method to resemble human life it is forever changing and difficult to estimate how it will look next.

Even though I travel for my work, in Hong Kong the situation allows me to become an Ocean Ambassador. I am passionate about nature and I hope I can inspire others to join together to take care of it. Whenever I have free time I like to dive and spend time at the beach swimming. I believe people have an intimate relationship with nature. Don't you know that many people will buy a sea shell to help overcome illness. The shell reflects the illumination of the sand and gives the strength of the ocean. This is an intense and deep feeling.

However there are sand dunes that are more frightening. With a friend I travelled close to the edge of the desert. originally it was a clear, bright and sunny day. Within minutes the sky clouded up with dark dense clouds and the wind became polluted with sand in a dark black march of ash.

Suddenly the wind blew, the air was filled withsand flying. It covered the sky, the ground and every inch in between. Before my eyes everything changed and was covered with confusion.

In a moment the wind force went from weak to strong. I loved it but I was also anxious. In the desert the sand is very fine. The force of the huge wind formed a wave of sand that completely frightens people. At that moment I was truly afraid. You dare not think of the power of the sand, such a sand fear might truly terrify a person.
Luckily the desert storm did not get stronger, and before long it stopped. We originally didn't move but waited a moment. The wind power rotated, weakened and everything again returned to tranquility. The roaring storms of the desert come and go quickly and leave no trace of their existance.

In recent years I have spent much time in Mainland China. I worked on the comedy My Dream Girl with Zhao Wei and also an action movie with Li Ming, Heroic Duo. These have been a new style and I place my hope for a happy break in these movies.

The last few years have persuaded me to change the shape of my acting. In the past I acted many comic book hero characters. Now I want to cause the audience to have a pleasant surprise. People come out to buy tickets to watch a movie, and to enjoy their free time.

Currently I try to construct a new Ekin Cheng. There are risks. But just as I described the sand dunes appearance, so human life is comparable to this.

I feel that when in life we don't accomplish what we wished it is like the desert storm. It is necessary to endure. Yet we should optimistically anticipate the next day. The storm passes and the sun returns. Like this can regard the storms presence as a difficult time. But it will pass and life will be peaceful and happy again.
