Ekin Cheng Yee-Kin Relax in Bangkok TEA Weekly Magazine 2004

This week's cover features Ekin. Originally it was arranged to shoot indoors but people believed that the beach and Ekin was the most ideal match. Ekin explained that he is in Thailand to work on " Leave Me Alone". He was happy when we suggest go to the travel pier and felt he was already on Thailand's Sumai Island.

Facing the sunlight and the beach we are without exception thinking Thailand, yet Ekin consequently had been there earlier with the Peng Brothers and Charlene, because they are filming the movie " Leave Me Alone" are working in Thailand for two months.

Ekin explained that in the past he usually arrived in Thailand and filmed the scenes, for example, " Bad Boys" and "Good Bye Mr. Cool" etc. However this time then is more leisure time. Still he calculates that this is the first time.

This set sufficient to film in two months. At first the director said he wanted to schedule locals. Certainly gave us a little apprehension, because work this time meet local bird flu. Day after day clear pure air, completely forget about bird flu, because this time do all the actual scenery films in Thailand so not necessarily will all need to return, at least have time for a little extra work, for example. to do interviews. For 2 months people in Thailand, basically this is very comfortable as unnecessary to rush. Also the directors arranged a balance time to eat, cause the feeling to be happy and healthy. Two months filming seems like a great holiday.

This benefit has Ekin on the beach leaping about. He continued again to explain about his time in Thailand.

Because at that time besides the bird flu, also must be aware that Islamic fundamentalists attacked Bangkok. The director Peng Shi therefore on the first day of filming asked a Thai master to preside over the start of filming and do a local tradition's worship spirits ceremony, to ask the spirits to protect us and have a without any problems work. For this short time feelings most peaceful, we might as well abstain from the roast pork. Didn't know that is coincidental that the director arrange inside two months we finish, seems really not have before eat in past pork.

Ekin is passionate about Thailand but during filming recalled that Charlene even more loves it. Tracing back the 60 days of Thai life, Ekin said with Charlene mood was great, really just resembled traveling. Everywhere was good food, good drinks, and fruit but the food makes both stomachache and vomiting.

Our mood was great. The locals really have beautiful food, but I have come to understand I need to abstain. Charlene though was suddenly eating and drinking, no wonder she failed to lose weight. She crazily ate the local spicy hot food until she was sick.

Start to mention the local cuisine aspect, Ekin laughs and says that this time although the filming was good, to the local people still not dare praise the cuisine.

The local people's hygiene consciousness is still very weak.When we were filming the local workers, like very many people shared a drink. Everyone grasped a straw and insert it into the middle. When they want a drink of water they go sip a tasteless wine, sometimes as many as 10 straws in the drink. Extremely unhygienic and when I saw was most alarmed. Separately when they make coffee they inappropriately lick it to taste, we felt that was not good. However the director then called on us to forget it, as was probably the Thai food and drink custom and we would not be able to change it. We can only ignore it.

Start to say that similarly Peng brothers come from Thailand. But Ekin from 10 years before in fact indirectly already collaborated with them.

Before "A Man Called Hero" , "Storm Riders" etc. were a big part of Andy Lau's work, and the Peng brothers were responsible for the editing. However at that time I was not to familiar with them and at most just said "Hi". Yet this time is the only one that really counts as a positive collaboration.

From this Peng brothers persist in directing movies. For Ekin however they have created a strange and interesting twins role. In fact at the same time causes Ekin to compare this to Thailand's twin treasures emphasizing the characters.

We usually as a group Team go into the city to eat dinner. Everyone knows Peng Shi is a twin. We discuss if they often go out to eat. The younger twin Peng Fa only wears flip flops, this is amusing as a look for a director and even he can't help laughing at himself. My reaction caused him to point to it not being not evident that he has brains. Originally is he by no means Peng Fa but big brother Peng Shi. That moment I feel that twin brothers have soul inspiration. At that time I didn't decide to guess whether he is the older brother, although he is certainly a fine fellow and because the two persons truly are too similar."

Very many people appreciate Ekin because for the last 10 years he has had a peaceful, bright, modern person's personality . He told me he likes the ocean, he likes the outdoors and therefore lives in Sai Kung. Just before he left he said that today had been the first sweetness after hard work , because the entire day of interviews had been OK. Because we chose the beach, it caused him not to resemble a work appearance at work, he was extremely relaxed.
